Please Control Your Dog

Monday February 20, 2017

Recently, one of our members was knocked down by a off-leash dog near the tunnel. Dogs are understandably excited when they first leave the parking lotso dogs need to closely controlled in that area to avoid incidents. When we updated our dog policy last year, we tried to set conditions that allow skiers to enjoy skiing with their dog while reducing the potential for incidents. More restrictive dog rules may be necessary if the policy is not being followed.

Please read the one-page policy document. Key rules to note:

  • Skiers may have one or two dogs at the lower parking lot, on Pooch Paradise, Hound Heaven and the connecting trails from the lower parking lot to Pooch Paradise and Hound Heaven.
  • Dogs are not permitted to be at the upper parking lot, on the trails connecting the lower and upper parking lots or on any other ski trails at the Nordic Centre.
  • Skiers must be in control of their dog(s) at all times and will be responsible for any incident.
  • Skiers must keep their dog under close control in the parking lot, through the underpass and on the connecting trails to Pooch Paradise and Hound Heaven. “Close control” means on leash unless the owner is able to keep the dog close and not bothering other skiers.
  • Skiers with dogs must remove their dog’s waste from trails; either bag it or flip unbagged waste into the bush.

There is a lot more dog poop on the trails this year and it is made worse by the infrequent snowfalls. Hopefully, the abandoned poop is due to skiers not noticing what their dog did behind them. Since that can happen to anyone, please compensate by flipping someone else’s abandoned poop into the bush.
