Our Club

The Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club has decades of development and growth behind it. Over the years, hundreds of volunteers have worked to provide a cross country ski facility for the people of our community. The legacy of those volunteers is the first class nordic centre that we enjoy today.

Few cross country ski facilities in British Columbia, yet alone Canada, compare in terms of our physical infrastructure with our lovely lodge, excellent trail system and grooming program. We are also consistently blessed with excellent snowfall, usually from mid-November to mid April.

In addition, we have the largest club per capita in BC. This in particular is a testament to the central role played by our club in the recreational and social life of the Bulkley Valley. From this membership we draw upon volunteers whose hard work and dedication make our programs and special events second to none.

Our club also plays a significant role in the life of nordic skiing in the province of BC. By developing skiers and biathletes of high caliber, we contribute to provincial and national ski team programs. The BC Team typically includes at least three or four athletes from our club. These elite athletes go on to become mentors and role models for both young and old in our community, and bring our efforts at the club level full circle. Cross Country BC says “It takes a ski community to raise an Olympic medalist.” One day, perhaps the Bulkley Valley will be able to claim this honour!

The BV Nordic Centre hosts and participates in a variety of events throughout the long ski season that cater to skiers of all ages and abilities. We strive to provide events that are well-organized, safe, friendly and inclusive.

The lineup of events can include:

  • Local, Provincial and National Nordic races
  • Biathlon races, up to the Provincial level
  • Fun days for kids
  • Elementary School races
  • Ski Swap, Potlucks, and other get-togethers
  • A Ski Marathon
  • A 12-hour team relay – sponsored by McBike raising funds for local charities

The Nordic Centre also hosted several national-level races:

  • The 1999 Junior National Championships (225 skiers, 5 coaches from across Canada)
  • The Canada Games Trial in December 2006
  • The Western Canadian Championships in February 2007
