BV Nordic Centre

BV Nordic Centre Open for Skiing

Tuesday December 11, 2018

About 5 cm of fresh snow fell overnight and into Monday morning.  Not a lot, but on top of some well-prepared trails it is enough that we can finally say that the Bulkley Valley Nordic Centre is officially open.

It is still early season conditions and not everything is open but we have lots to offer skiers:

 • We have new trails and a new map! Go to http:///map to download the digital, GPS-capable map. Brochure maps and trailside you-are-here maps are being worked on.
 • Trails  will be groomed regularly as conditions allow. Until the snow is deeper, the tracksetting team will use the smaller Ginzu groomer to set skate and classic tracks.
 • Check the Conditions box and Weather at http:// to see what is groomed and if there is likely to be new snow.
 • Broadway, Down & Out, upper Valley View, Upper Logging Roads are in the best condition in these low snow conditions; largely due to trail work this summer that smoothed trail surfaces, improved drainage and removed brush.
 • With the current low snowpack, the dog trails and Pine Creek Loop will open later than other trails because of wet spots and rougher surfaces. Some trail improvements were done recently but the challenges are greater on that side of the road.  Note that salvage logging is still wrapping up on Pine Creek loop past the 5 km cut-off.
 • Trail lights will be on each evening starting Tuesday December 12. Lights go out at 9:30 pm and the gate is locked at 9:45 pm
 • Trails are never closed. You can ski any trail anytime if conditions allow, as long as you have a trail pass. Skiing at night is cool especially if you have a good headlight (and a backup light).
 • Trail passes are needed day and night to help cover the cost of keeping trails skiable.

Skiing the trails is always at your own risk but be aware of these early season conditions:

 • Ruts in the snow due to underlying surface or difficult grooming conditions
 • Twigs and debris sticking out of the snow (especially the new trails). These are usually removed with hand clippers by volunteers (That's you!)
 • Unmarked rocks, bare patches or wet spots.
 • Not all signs are up yet (you-are-here maps are being worked on) so don't ski into unfamiliar areas unless you have the new map.

Make sure you check out the new map at bvnordic.ca/map
